Meet the maker Soil to Studio
Soil to Studio uses time-honored techniques like handloom weaving, block-printing, natural dyeing, and hand embroidering to slow make their artisan home decor like table linens, pillows, and scarves in intentional, small batches. Artisans in rural communities in India make each piece from natural fibers like wool, organic cotton, Indian linen, and silk. Founder Swati Bansal was born and raised in the small town of Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. Her upbringing fostered an appreciation for slow-made textiles and handmade techniques. Soil to Studio’s mission is to empower artisans and their families, preserve local craftsmanship techniques, and create sustainable livelihoods. They follow fair trade practices and ask artisans to set their own prices for the pieces they make. Soil to Studio is also committed to sustainability by using low-energy manufacturing techniques. They utilize solar power, rainwater collection, and the reuse of post-production scraps. Soil to Studio is a POC-owned and women-owned brand.
