Meet the maker Kyrgies
Kyrgies slippers have you covered every season of the year. Made using centuries-old heritage techniques by the best wool felters in the world, women artisans in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan handcraft each pair of slow-made, sustainable slippers. All artisans receive a living wage in their women-run factory. Constructed from wet felted wool, each pair keeps your feet at he perfect temperature, is odor resistant, breathable, and durable. The sheep who provide the wool live in open pastures from spring to autumn and move to the yards of Kyrgyz villagers during the winter months. Raw wool is sheered, cleaned, combed, dyed, and weighed for each pair of Kyrgies. Pressed together using the centuries-old technique with only water and natural soap, artisans roll the wool by hand. The wool dries into a firm but pliable shape. The entire process takes six weeks from raw wool to shoe. Kyrgies use all-natural, vegetable-tanned leather tanned without chrome or chromium in their leather-soled shoes.
